Integrated Osteoarthritis Management Program
Free to eligible members of participating private health funds
Provided you are eligible, there is no charge to you at all to do the program. All the products and material you need will be provided (delivered directly to your nominated address at no charge).
The Integrated Osteoarthritis ManagementTM program (incorporating Healthy Weight For Life) is a Chronic Disease Management Program designed to help eligible members with knee or hip osteoarthritis achieve the following objectives:
>>> Objective 1: Reduce load and stress on joints via
- Weight loss (when carrying extra body weight)
- Strengthening lower limb muscles
>>> Objective 2: Keep joints moving via
- Joint range of motion exercises
- Gentle physical activity
>>> Objective 3: Relieve pain via
- Careful use of prescription and over-the-counter medication
- Non medicated pain relief strategies
Plus, (where applicable) improve fitness for surgery and enhance preparation for post surgery care and rehabilitation

Your treating GP, Rheumatologist or Orthopaedic Surgeon will need to give their approval before your enrolment in the program is activated.
Who Can Participate?
The Integrated Osteoarthritis ManagementTM program is available FREE to eligible members of participating health insurance funds who meet ALL of the following criteria:
> Have X-ray diagnosed osteoarthritis of the knee or hip
> Have a body mass index (BMI) ≥30 (Check your BMI here)
> In the clinical opinion of their GP have either:
a) symptoms and disease progression that is likely to necessitate referral to an orthopaedic surgeon in the foreseeable future to be evaluated for a possible joint replacement procedure OR
b) an existing joint replacement that is failing and is at risk of needing further surgery in the foreseeable future
> Have a hospital cover product that they have held for at least 12 months (that does not exclude joint replacement surgery)
> Obtain approval from their medical practitioner to participate and maintain medical supervision for existing medical conditions
> Are willing to provide their progress data (including weight, waist circumference, joint pain scores, blood pressure and cholesterol)
> Have NOT previously participated in this program or any other Healthy Weight for Life program offered by their health fund
